Stress Expressionism
A way of working that comes from a quiet, honest place.
Many days I go to the storage unit hoping to paint, and after an hour of trying I realize it's better to put the brushes down and work on something else — or just leave. Forcing it only invites mistakes.
Other times I let the music decide which piece comes out and goes up on the wall easel. The process is never the same. Never clinical. Always organic. When I'm in the groove I sit about ten feet back and study the piece, playing mental chess with the color and the composition.
That's the ritual, I suppose. The right moment, the right mood, the right music. When it lands I feel cleansed, as though I got somewhere with a difficult thought or memory.
The spirit guides. I am the instrument.
